To quote another ABC reality show, Rae and Philmon take a moment and say their goodbyes. (photo: ABC)

Monday’s American Idol theme was Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night, guest-mentored by Class of 2022 member Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo. This meant judge Carrie Underwood finally had her rock ‘n’ roll fantasies come true, as she opened the show doing a rousing duet newly announced Class of 2026 inductee Billy Idol. This year’s other inductees include Phil Collins, Celia Cruz, MC Lyte, Oasis, Queen Latifah, Gram Parsons, Sade, Luther Vandross, and, most excitingly for me, Iron Maiden, Wu-Tang Clan, and Joy Division/New Order (many of whom I voted for). But sadly, none of the top 11 chose to cover “Number of the Beat,” “Break Ya Neck,” or “She’s Lost Control.”
