And the winner of ‘American Idol’ Season 24 is…
Was this a "String Cheese" incident, so to speak, or was Hannah Harper always destined to make 'Idol' history this year?
Monday on the American Idol Season 24 finale, Hannah Harper made history, becoming the first female country artist to win the show since, incredibly, current judge Carrie Underwood did so way back in 2005. (Feel old yet?)
This result — with the finale’s two big power-singers, Jordan McCullough and Keyla Richardson, respectively placing second and third — may have surprised some viewers. While Hannah had seemed like an early frontrunner when she’d captured America’s hearts (and Carrie’s heart) with her viral audition song, a disarmingly vulnerable ballad about motherhood and postpartum depression called “String Cheese,” her momentum had slowed a bit in recent weeks. So, Season 24 had seemed like anyone’s game.
But I’d predicted that the two R&B dynamos would split the votes in the end… with country/folk songbird Hannah having her own lane that would lead directly to the winner’s circle.
