Make-or-break by the ocean: ‘American Idol’ Season 23’s top 24 Hawaii week continues

Another dozen hopefuls competed Monday, and some sank while others swam.

This past Sunday, the first dozen hopefuls from American Idol’s Season 23’s top 24 performed in Hawaii for America’s votes (and for a beachside crowd of mai tai-swilling Aulani Resort revelers), with some assistance from artist-in-residence Jelly Roll and guest mentor Ashanti. On Monday, the other 12 contestants hit the sand, joined once again by Jelly and, for this episode, guest mentor Josh Groban.

While some artists struggled — frontrunner Canaan James Hill was dealing with allergies, Grayson Torrence was dealing with her insecurities, and others were just dealt the wrong songs — this was still a competitive night, and no one totally wiped out on the beach. But which 10 of these singers will ride the wave to the next round? Let’s recap.
