Nuthin’ but a V thing: ‘The Voice’ is now officially ‘The Snoop Dogg Show’
It’s a Doggy Dogg World, and we’re just living in it.
At some point in pop-culture history, Snoop Dogg metamorphosized from fearsome gangsta rapper, basically America’s most wanted, to America’s sweetheart — basically the Gen X hip-hop equivalent of Betty White, a national treasure adored by all. Therefore, NBC’s genius casting of Snoop as a delightful commentator and torch-bearer at this year’s Summer Olympics brilliantly set the stage for the Doggfather to triumphantly return to the network full-time this fall, as the new star of The Voice — aka, my Olympics.
This week, the torch was passed, so to speak, from previous Voice coaches Dan + Shay to Snoop. And while there were some other appealing coaches in the mix — another newbie, crooner/Blake Shelton bestie Michael Bublé; reigning queen Reba McEntire; and Mrs. Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, who interestingly is now the by-default veteran among the cast — it was clear from the cold open that Season 26 is going to be The Snoop Dogg Show. And I am here for it.
