Chance the Rapper, who’s back on The Voice after taking a year off, has so far been my favorite coach of Season 25 — and he’s seemingly come to win this time. That’s why it was so shocking when, during Tuesday’s Blind Auditions episode, he willingly sacrificed the night’s only four-chair contestant — a contestant he had a decent shot of recruiting for his own team — to John Legend.

But don’t think for a moment that Chance has gone soft or gotten lazy after only four episodes. The man is crafty and competitive, and he knows what he is doing. And what he’s doing is playing the “long game.” I love to see it.
